UK to Bask in 23C Iberian Plume as Warmth Spreads across the Country

UK to Experience Warmth with Iberian Plume Bringing Temperatures up to 23C

A surge of warm air from Spain, known as an Iberian plume, is expected to bring a rise in temperatures across the United Kingdom, with some areas reaching as high as 23C. Weather maps from WXCharts indicate that the warm air will move towards the UK during the second week of May, bringing an end to the cold and snowy conditions experienced in April.

The warm weather is expected to spread across the country, with even northern areas witnessing a rise in temperatures to around 17C. Southern England and southeastern regions are particularly at risk of experiencing the highest temperatures due to their proximity to the source of the warm air plume.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast also hints at a trend towards warmer temperatures, with the possibility of a ‘warm to very warm spell’ in some southern and eastern parts of the country. This change in weather conditions is welcomed after a prolonged period of cold and wintry weather.

Jim Dale, a weather expert from British Weather Services, shared insights on the upcoming warm weather: ‘The next two weeks will be punctuated by some warmer weather at times, with temperatures ranging from 17C to 21C across the UK. In between that, it will be cooler. We are taking smaller and more natural steps towards the warmer days.’

Despite the expected rise in temperatures, the weather is expected to remain unsettled in the coming days, with a mixture of sunshine and showers. However, as May progresses, a more consistent warm Iberian plume is likely to establish itself, leading to a more settled and warmer weather pattern.

The Met Office’s five-day forecast predicts often cloudy conditions with scattered showers for today, turning more unsettled on Sunday after a cool start. Temperatures are expected to rise slowly during the period, with rain towards the west to start the working week and drier conditions in the east.
