Ukraine’s Ambassador to India: A Career Dedicated to Military and Diplomacy

Oleksandr Polishchuk, Ukraine’s current Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of India, embodies a career deeply intertwined with military service, government positions, and diplomacy. His journey began in 1980 when he joined the Kyiv Higher Military Command School as a cadet. He graduated from the Kyiv Higher All-Military Command School in 1984 and later from the Academy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 1996.

Polishchuk dedicated over two decades to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, serving in various command, staff, and General Staff roles within the Ministry of Defense. His service culminated in his retirement as a Major-General in 2010. However, his commitment to national security continued as he transitioned to senior civil service roles within the Ministry of Defense and the Ukraine National Security and Defense Council. He excelled as a state expert and headed departments within the Council.

From 2014 to 2017, Polishchuk’s expertise was instrumental in his leadership within the National Security and Defense Council, where he held key positions. He further demonstrated his dedication to security and international relations by serving as a member of the Ukrainian delegation in the Trilateral Contact Group, representing Ukraine in the working subgroup on security issues from 2020 to 2022. His international engagement extends to his role as Deputy Military Representative of the Ukrainian Mission to NATO from 2004 to 2007.

Beyond his government and military roles, Polishchuk engaged in expert analytical work for a non-governmental organization from 2018 to 2019. During this period, he also dedicated himself to scientific research at the National Institute for Strategic Studies.

Polishchuk’s recent appointment as Ambassador to India in June 2023 underscores his dedication to fostering international relations. He has actively called for India’s increased participation in promoting a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, particularly in light of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Kyiv.

Ambassador Polishchuk’s career reflects a deep commitment to both national security and international cooperation. His experience in the military, government, and diplomatic spheres positions him as a key figure in Ukraine’s current efforts to navigate international relations and secure peace.
