Oregon’s Ian Umlandt Shines in Complete Game Win
Ian Umlandt’s impressive outing on the mound propelled No. 22 Oregon to a 7-2 victory over San Francisco on Monday. The sophomore left-hander’s career-high nine strikeouts and complete-game performance showcased his dominance.
Umlandt’s resilience was evident in the first inning, as he prevented San Francisco from extending their lead after an early run. His exceptional control continued throughout the game, as he did not surrender another hit until the seventh inning. His remarkable performance marked Oregon’s first complete game since 2023 and the fifth complete game with no walks in the program’s recent history.
Oregon’s offense provided timely support, with Carter Garate’s two-run single in the fourth inning proving crucial. Garate’s eighth-inning home run further extended the Ducks’ lead. Bryce Boettcher and Anson Aroz also contributed to Oregon’s offensive success.
San Francisco employed seven pitchers, but their efforts were insufficient to overcome Oregon’s offensive and defensive prowess. The loss dropped San Francisco’s record to 17-24, while Oregon improved to 28-12.
