The search for missing Thai model Kaikan Kaennakam has come to a tragic end after her body was discovered in a Bahrain morgue. The 31-year-old’s remains were found unidentified, having sat in the Salmaniya Medical Complex morgue for months. However, cops were finally able to identify Kaennakam through a distinctive tattoo on her leg, bringing closure to the mystery surrounding her disappearance.
Kaennakam had moved to Bahrain two to three years prior to pursue a restaurant job after her modeling career waned. She regularly kept in touch with her family and friends back home, sharing updates and images of her new life. However, her sudden silence in April 2023 sparked widespread concern and prompted a desperate search by her loved ones.
The Thai Embassy in Bahrain played a crucial role in assisting the family’s search efforts, reaching out to local contacts and the Thai community in the Middle East. On April 18, the embassy notified Kaennakam’s family of the discovery of a woman’s body in the morgue, which had remained unidentified since last year. It was only after identifying the tattoo that police were able to confirm the body belonged to Kaennakam.
The autopsy report attributed her death to ‘acute lung and heart failure due to alcohol poisoning.’ Kaennakam’s family is currently making arrangements to repatriate her body to Thailand. However, they have expressed some doubts about the circumstances surrounding her death, citing bruises visible in photos of her body.
Kaennakam’s sister, Suthida Ngernthaworn, shared her thoughts on the tragic news, saying, ‘We are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved sister. We had been frantically searching for her and were devastated to learn of her passing. The embassy has stated that she died from alcohol intoxication, but the bruises on her body raise some questions.’
The family has requested a reopening of the case and a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to Kaennakam’s death. As they mourn their loss, they seek answers and closure for their beloved sibling.
