United Airlines and Rise Against Hunger Team Up for Fourth Annual ‘September of Service’

For the fourth consecutive year, United Airlines has partnered with Rise Against Hunger, a global non-profit organization, to participate in their annual ‘September of Service’ initiative. This month-long campaign, which runs from September 3rd to 24th, aims to bring United employees together to serve communities facing hunger around the world. As part of this initiative, 16 meal packaging events will be held across United’s airport hubs, with the ambitious goal of preparing over 400,000 meals.

United Airlines’ ‘September of Service’ initiative holds special significance, serving as a tribute to the victims and families impacted by the tragic events of September 11. Throughout the month, United employees will engage in over 125 volunteer opportunities in collaboration with various non-profit organizations. Among these efforts, eight of the 16 meal packaging events will take place on September 11, a day now observed as a national day of service.

Helon Hammond, Vice President of Global Learning and People and Community Impact at United Airlines, remarked, “Serving as a force for good is part of United’s DNA. We’re proud to work again this year with Rise Against Hunger and come together in service of those in need across the globe.”

During the month, hundreds of United Airlines employees and customers will collaborate to package 400,000 nutritious meals, consisting of rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables, and essential vitamins. These meals, meticulously prepared in partnership with Rise Against Hunger, will be distributed to communities worldwide facing severe food insecurity.

“Rise Against Hunger is honored to partner with United Airlines on this meaningful month of service, coming together to recognize those affected by September 11 by giving back,” said Rick Kearney, Rise Against Hunger CEO. “The meals packaged during the September of Service will enable us to have a profound impact on global hunger and ensure thousands of people receive the immediate, vital nutrition they need.”

The meal packaging campaign will encompass a series of events, including:

This year’s ‘September of Service’ meal packaging events build upon the strong partnership between Rise Against Hunger and United Airlines. Since 2017, United has successfully packaged over 2.7 million meals with Rise Against Hunger, distributing them to communities in 27 countries. Beyond meal packaging, United has actively supported Rise Against Hunger’s mission by assisting in meal distribution, providing emergency relief, and contributing to sustainable agricultural development projects designed to address both immediate needs and advance long-term food security solutions.
