United Airlines Extends Flight Suspension to Israel Amidst Geopolitical Tensions

United Airlines has announced that it will extend its flight suspension to Israel until early June, citing ongoing geopolitical tensions. The airline was previously scheduled to resume its daily flights to Tel Aviv on May 2, but the resumption has been pushed back to June 9. A second daily service, initially slated to resume on May 9, has also been canceled until June 19. United initially suspended its flights between Newark and Tel Aviv on April 19 following an attack by Israel on Iran.

Other carriers have also halted flights to Israel amid rising tensions with Iran. EasyJet, Air Canada, and Air India have all suspended their flights to the country. Air India initially stopped flights in October during the conflict between Israel and Hamas, then resumed service in 2024. However, operations were again put on hold in mid-April following subsequent hostilities.

In contrast, some airlines are cautiously beginning to restart their flights to Israel. FlyDubai, Ethiopian Airlines, and Azerbaijan Airlines have all announced plans to resume services. These interruptions in flights to and from Israel began last October with the onset of hostilities with Hamas, leading airlines such as American and Delta to cancel services as the conflict unfolded.
