University of Washington Football Players Accused of Assault, Suspensions Imposed

Two University of Washington football players, Tylin “Tybo” Tamis Rogers and Diesel Gordon, have been charged with misdemeanor assault after an alleged attack on a bicyclist in Seattle on March 11th, just after noon. The incident occurred in the University District when the bicyclist, who was riding on the street, was confronted by the two individuals in a car behind him. The bicyclist stated that the occupants of the car began yelling at him to get on the sidewalk, and when he responded by flipping them off and spitting at the driver, the driver attempted to hit him with the car. The bicyclist tried to escape, but the suspects pursued him and allegedly pushed, smacked, and broke part of his bike. They also reportedly spit on his face at least eight times. The suspects continued to harass the victim until a pedestrian intervened.

The attack was captured on surveillance video, which enabled the police to identify the assailants due to the UW athletics-branded clothing they were wearing. Rogers is also facing second-degree and third-degree rape charges from a separate incident. He pleaded not guilty on Thursday in King County Superior Court and is scheduled for his next appearance on May 21st. Both Rogers and Gordon have been suspended from the football team pending the outcome of the assault case.
