Upcoming Latrobe Art Center Exhibition, Church Events, Fundraisers and Other Local Happenings

Art


The Latrobe Art Center will host an opening reception for the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society’s annual member exhibit “Waterworks” on April 27th at 2 PM. Light refreshments will be served, and many of the artists will be present. The exhibit will be on display through May 24th during the center’s regular operating hours.

Church News


– Jeannette Assembly of God will sponsor a free clothing event called Tabitha’s Closet on April 26th from 5 to 7 PM. The event will be held in the church fellowship hall.
– As part of their 150th anniversary celebration, First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon will host a concert featuring gospel praise band Westward Road on April 27th at 6 PM.

Fundraisers


– Westmoreland Hospital Auxiliary will host a Spring Into Bingo fundraiser on April 28th at 1 PM at the Youngwood Firehall. Doors open at 11:30 AM, and lunch will be served until 1 PM. Admission is $30, and the top prize is a $1,500 jackpot.
– West Newton Public Library will have a used book and jewelry sale on April 26th and 27th from 8 AM to 2 PM in the library parking lot. Fill a shopping bag for just $5.
– Heritage Methodist Church on the Diamond in Ligonier will hold its annual spring rummage sale on April 26th and 27th from 8 AM to 4 PM and 8 AM to noon, respectively. Lunch will be available for dine-in or takeout, and proceeds will benefit global missions.
– A pork and sauerkraut dinner will be held at St. John United Church of Christ on April 27th from 4 to 7 PM. The menu includes pork roast, sauerkraut, kielbasa, hot dogs, mashed potatoes, green beans, bread, and dessert. Dine-in or takeout is available.
– St. James Lutheran Church will host a strawberry festival on April 27th from 4 to 7 PM. The menu includes ham barbecue, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, cake, strawberries and ice cream, pop, and water. Dine-in or takeout is available.
– The Holy Name Society of St. Pius Church will host an oldies dance on April 26th from 6 to 10 PM in the church social hall. Admission is $5 and includes soft drinks, snacks, and adult beverages. BYOB. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.
– Bushy Run Lions Club will host a chicken barbeque dinner on April 28th from 11 AM to 5 PM or until sold out at the club community building. The menu includes half chicken, coleslaw, roll, cookies, and a drink. Dine-in or takeout via drive-thru is available.
– YWCA Westmoreland will host a craft and sip party on May 9th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. The cost is $35 and includes supplies to make button spring flowers. BYO wine and snacks.

Meetings


– Mt. Pleasant American Legion Auxiliary will meet on May 7th at 6 PM for their annual Mother’s Day dinner and meeting at the post. Reservations are required by April 28th.

Special Event


A mobile license to carry firearms processing event will be held by appointment from 2 to 7 PM on April 25th at the Murrysville municipal building. Sponsored by Rep. Jill Cooper.

Sports


A free fishing derby for all ages will be held at Mammoth Park on April 28th from 8 AM to 1 PM. Registration begins at 7:30 AM at pavilion 12. Anglers 16 and older must display a valid 2024 Pennsylvania fishing license. All youth participants registered by noon will be entered into a drawing for prizes.
