US-India Partnership Deepens with Space Collaboration and Shared Priorities

The successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 in 2023 has laid the groundwork for a more strategic and comprehensive space collaboration between NASA and ISRO, according to the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF). This collaboration will see further scientific research conducted aboard the International Space Station in 2025. The USISPF emphasizes that both nations have facilitated joint research opportunities between their leading scientific institutions, national laboratories, and private sector researchers, all of which contribute to advancing the “Innovation Handshake.”

Beyond space, the USISPF highlights Prime Minister Modi’s recent visits to Ukraine and Poland, and India’s leadership at the G20 Summit as evidence of Washington’s recognition of New Delhi’s role as a voice for the Global South and a bridge-builder for de-escalating tensions. This approach, according to the USISPF, is crucial in today’s complex geopolitical landscape.

The USISPF expresses gratitude to President Biden for strengthening ties with India, noting that the strategic relationship will continue to deepen regardless of the outcome of the November 5 presidential elections. The forum emphasizes that the Indo-Pacific region will remain central to Washington’s geostrategic vision, regardless of who occupies the White House in 2025.

Reaffirming the US-India Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership as the “defining partnership of the 21st century”, the USISPF underscores the shared interests between the two democracies. The forum stresses the importance of elevating these shared interests into shared priorities to effectively address the pressing challenges of our time.

The US-India Major Defence Partnership continues to be a crucial pillar of security in the Indo-Pacific region. The USISPF highlights the success of the initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) and the subsequent launch of the India-US Defence Acceleration Ecosystem (INDUS-X) as significant milestones in strengthening this partnership. These initiatives have played a key role in deepening and expanding strategic cooperation across critical technology sectors, including space, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, quantum, biotechnology, and advanced telecommunications, as evidenced by Prime Minister Modi’s roundtable discussion with tech CEOs.

The USISPF emphasizes the significant potential of establishing a new semiconductor fabrication facility in India. This project, it believes, will revitalize India’s manufacturing capabilities, bolster the high-tech sector, and strengthen national security and supply chains, while attracting American investors.
