US Reacts to Putin-Xi Jinping Meeting: ‘Exchanging Hugs? That’s Nice for Them’

The United States has reacted to the recent meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, saying that it was not surprised by the outcomes of the meeting, but is concerned about the growing relationship between the two countries. During the meeting, Putin and Jinping exchanged hugs in a display of increasing friendship between the two countries. The US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said that the US was not concerned about the personal human bodily affection between Putin and Jinping, and that he would leave it to the two leaders to explain why they thought it was good to hug one another.

Putin’s visit to China came amid US accusations that Chinese companies have been aiding Russia with technology amid the war in Ukraine. China has indirectly stood in support of Russia during the ongoing war against Ukraine, and the economic ties between the two countries have been growing. During his China visit, Putin hailed the support of the country, saying that he would inform Xi Jinping about the situation surrounding the Ukraine crisis and that he was grateful for the initiatives that China was putting forward to resolve the problem.

Meanwhile, Taiwan has publicly claimed that China and Russia support each other’s expansionism. Taiwan has been facing increased Chinese surveillance and interference in its territory.
