The U.S. Travel Association has announced the winners of the 2024 Destiny and Mercury Awards at the 40th annual ESTO conference, held in Columbus, Ohio from August 11-13. The event, which took place at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, culminated in a celebratory awards dinner where these prestigious accolades were presented.
The Destiny and Mercury Awards, according to Ellen Davis, U.S. Travel Executive Vice President, Business Strategy and Industry Engagement, not only recognize creative achievement in destination marketing but also celebrate the remarkable efforts to inspire visitation and promote travel in innovative ways. “Our destination community works every day to grow travel in ways that benefit local economies and communities. Congratulations to all the winners of this year’s awards,” said Davis.
These awards highlight outstanding achievements in 18 categories across destination marketing, a field that plays a crucial role in driving tourism and fostering industry growth. The Destiny Awards recognize excellence in destination marketing at the local and regional levels, while the Mercury Awards commend state-level accomplishments. This year’s winners were chosen by an expert panel comprising nearly 60 marketing professionals. Categories ranged from broadcast advertising and digital campaigns to public relations efforts and innovative website designs.
The ESTO conference, a key gathering for professionals in destination marketing, rotates annually among different host cities. The three-day event is packed with educational workshops, networking sessions, and recognition of industry excellence.
In a notable highlight from the conference, the National Council of State Tourism Directors named Mike Mangeot, Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Tourism, as the 2024 State Tourism Director of the Year. The awards ceremony and the entire ESTO conference stand as a testament to the dedication and innovation within the destination marketing industry, highlighting the vital role it plays in boosting tourism and strengthening local economies.
