US Warns of Sanctions Risk in Iran Business Deals

Amidst the recent visit of the Iranian president to Pakistan and the signing of eight Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), the United States has issued a warning to businesses contemplating ventures with Iran. Deputy Spokesperson of the U.S. State Department, Vedant Patel, highlighted the potential risk of sanctions imposed by the United States. While acknowledging Pakistan’s autonomy in determining its foreign policy pursuits, Patel urged businesses to be mindful of the associated risks. His remarks resonated with the recent sanctions imposed on suppliers to Pakistan’s ballistic missile program, which included entities from China. Patel emphasized that these sanctions targeted entities involved in the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems, particularly companies based in China and Belarus. He asserted that the sanctions were a continuation of the United States’ efforts to disrupt and take actions against proliferation networks and concerning weapons of mass destruction procurement activities worldwide. This warning underscores the complexities of Pakistan’s foreign policy and the geopolitical dynamics in the region. Despite the sanctions, Pentagon Press Secretary Patt Ryder affirmed that the United States maintains good relations with Pakistan, recognizing their importance as a security partner in the region.
