The United States dominated the mixed 4×100 metres medley relay at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Saturday, claiming gold with a world-record time and ending French sensation Leon Marchand’s perfect run of gold medals in the meet.
The American team shattered the previous world record, set by Britain at the 2021 Tokyo Games, with a blistering time of 3:37.43 seconds. This victory marked a significant achievement for the US, showcasing their strength and dominance in the pool.
Meanwhile, China secured the silver medal, and Australia claimed the bronze. France, with Marchand swimming the second leg, finished in fourth place, marking the first time the four-gold hero suffered a defeat in a final at the Paris Olympics.
Marchand’s remarkable performance throughout the Games saw him secure gold in the 200m, 400m, and 1500m freestyle events, as well as the 200m individual medley. However, the American team’s impressive relay performance prevented him from adding another gold medal to his impressive haul.
