USB4 2.0 Cables: The Next Generation of Speed and Power

Get ready for a significant leap in USB speed! While the full impact of these advancements might not be felt immediately in everyday devices, the technology is now a reality, thanks to Elecom, the first company to certify USB4 2.0 cables. These cables boast a massive improvement over their USB4 1.0 counterparts, offering double the speed.

Elecom plans to release two variants of the USB4 2.0 cable in December. The standard cable promises 80 Gbps throughput and 60W of charging power, while the other variant ups the ante with an impressive 240W of charging at 48V/5A. This powerful charging capability can easily handle devices like smartphones, tablets, laptops, gaming consoles, and power banks.

While currently available in Japan, the expansion of USB4 2.0 cables to other regions is anticipated in the coming months.

Beyond speed, these cables offer a significant boost to video capabilities, supporting DisplayPort passthrough for stunning 8K resolution at 60Hz or 4K at 120Hz. This opens up a world of possibilities for immersive gaming and content consumption.

While it may be some time before we see widespread adoption of devices equipped with USB4 2.0 ports, the future of USB technology is undeniably bright. The arrival of USB4 2.0 signifies a significant step towards faster data transfers, more efficient power delivery, and an improved user experience.
