The University of Southern California (USC) basketball program has witnessed a significant turnover in recent weeks, as redshirt freshman forward Brandon Gardner has become the latest player to enter the transfer portal. Gardner’s departure follows a string of departures that began with the departure of longtime coach Andy Enfield for SMU.
Under new coach Eric Musselman, USC has undergone a complete overhaul, bringing in a slew of transfers and flipping Sierra Canyon’s Isaiah Elohim from Arkansas. Departing players include Boogie Ellis, Joshua Morgan, DJ Rodman, Isaiah Collier, Kobe Johnson, Vincent Iwuchukwu, Oziyah Sellers, Bronny James, Arrinten Page, and Kijani Wright.
With Gardner’s departure, junior forward Harrison Hornery, who played three seasons for Enfield at USC, remains as the only holdover from the previous era. Hornery’s mother, Deanne Parslow, has expressed her son’s commitment to USC and Coach Musselman.
The mass exodus has left USC’s roster with a collection of mid-major talent acquired through the transfer portal. Despite the upheaval, Hornery will serve as a beacon of continuity for Musselman as the program embarks on a new chapter.
