Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith has become a frequent guest on the Pat McAfee Show. Since the show’s crew visited Utah for College GameDay in November, Smith has appeared three times. During each appearance, he has discussed the possibility of bringing an NHL team to Utah. Now that the move has become a reality, Smith has shared details about the process of selecting a name for the new team.
According to Smith, a bracket-style vote will be held to determine the name. Qualtrics and Doubleday & Cartwright will assist with the data collection. A fan event will be held at the Delta Center on Wednesday to introduce the team’s players, coaching staff, and front office. Smith has stated that he will retain coach André Tourigny and general manager Bill Armstrong.
Smith has previously sought input from the public for potential team names through a survey. Many people have also shared their ideas for team names and uniform color schemes on social media.
Smith has emphasized that he wants to take his time with the naming process and has suggested that the team may start the 2024-25 season without a nickname.
