Utah Weather: Active Pattern to Close the Workweek with Two Storms

After a stretch of warm and mostly quiet weather, Utah is set to experience an active weather pattern to close out the workweek. Two storms will move through the state between Thursday and Saturday, bringing widespread showers, cooler temperatures, and snow to the mountains.

The first storm is expected to arrive on Thursday, bringing scattered showers across the Beehive State. The best chance of rain will be in the northern two-thirds of the state. Snow levels are expected to stay above 7,000 ft., but thunderstorms will also be possible.

A second storm will move in between Friday and Saturday. This storm will bring more widespread showers across the state, with Friday likely being the wetter of the two days. Snow levels will drop a little more from Thursday, and there is a chance they could briefly drop below 7,000 ft. Daytime highs will run about 15-25 degrees cooler than what we have today.

Mountains above 8,000 ft. in Utah will have a chance to see accumulations of 6-12″, with locally up to 18″. The Cottonwoods could see 8-14″ of snow. Mountain valleys may see only rain while higher valleys could receive up to 2″. For our valleys and benches, we’re anticipating rain showers.

The wet weather will provide some relief for allergy sufferers. We’ve had a prolonged period of high pollen counts over the last couple of weeks, but wet weather can help clean out the air and reset pollen levels. The pollen count is forecasted to drop from high or extreme to a more manageable medium level on Friday.

Wet weather potential will begin to dip as we round out the weekend as our storm moves away. We’ll see calmer conditions take hold early next week along with a quick warm-up. By Monday we’ll likely be above average once again with highs near 70 along the Wasatch Front and low 80s in St. George. Temperatures will continue to warm through the middle of next week.

We’ll keep tracking the trajectory of the incoming storms and give you the latest developments. Until then enjoy the nice weather and stay up-to-date on the latest in our 4Warn Weather forecast both on-air and online, we are Good4Utah!
