A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Uttar Pradesh, Kripa Shankar Kannaujiya, has been demoted to the rank of constable after being caught in an extramarital affair with a female colleague. This disciplinary action follows an incident that occurred three years ago, where Kannaujiya, then serving as Circle Officer (CO) in Unnao, was caught red-handed in a hotel room with the constable.
The incident unfolded when Kannaujiya requested leave from the then Superintendent of Police (SP) of Unnao, citing family reasons. He was believed to have gone home, but this turned out to be false. His wife contacted the police station to inquire about his whereabouts, only to discover that he had instead gone to a hotel near Kanpur with a female constable. Upon realizing his absence, Kannaujiya switched off both his personal and official mobile phones.
However, his wife, unable to reach him, reached out to the Unnao SP for help. The police, alerted by the wife’s call, began searching for Kannaujiya and traced his last known location to a hotel in Kanpur. A police team was dispatched to the hotel and discovered the DSP and the constable together in a room. The entire incident was recorded on camera by the Unnao police as evidence.
Following this incident, Kannaujiya has now been transferred to the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) Gorakhpur battalion as a constable. This demotion serves as a stark reminder of the consequences that can arise from engaging in misconduct, even for those in positions of authority within the police force.
