Uttarakhand Enhances Air Connectivity, Opening Doors to Tourism and Economic Growth

Uttarakhand, famed for its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage, is a prominent tourist hub in India. However, accessibility has historically been a challenge for travelers. To overcome this, the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) is actively enhancing connectivity by establishing direct air links to seven major airports across the country.

These airports – Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Patna – have been strategically chosen based on anticipated passenger demand. Among the proposed routes, flights between Delhi and Pithoragarh are particularly significant as they provide crucial connectivity within the state.

Furthermore, Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun will soon offer direct flights to Bhopal, Chennai, and Patna. Pantnagar Airport, another key gateway, is set to establish links with Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Mumbai, significantly improving travel options for tourists and locals. The Mumbai route is expected to be particularly advantageous for professionals associated with the State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (SIIDCUL). Meanwhile, the new connection to Bengaluru is anticipated to benefit trekkers and adventure enthusiasts visiting the Kumaon region.

To further support these new routes, the state government is introducing Viability Gap Funding (VGF). This financial assistance aims to make the routes more attractive and sustainable for airlines, ultimately leading to better accessibility and economic growth for the region.

In addition to these efforts, UCADA is also exploring the possibility of expanding the state’s air network by introducing smaller, regional flights. This move could connect even more remote areas within Uttarakhand, boosting tourism in lesser-known destinations and spreading the benefits of increased connectivity throughout the state.
