Uttarakhand Suspends 14 Patanjali Products Over Misleading Ads

Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding misleading advertisements, the Uttarakhand government has taken action against Patanjali’s Divya Pharmacy, suspending the licenses of 14 products. The suspension affects products such as Swasari Gold, Swasari Vati, Bronchom, Swasari Pravahi, Swasari Avaleha, Mukta Vati Extra Power, Lipidom, BP Grit, Madhugrit, Madhunashini Vati Extra Power, ‘Livamrit Advance’, ‘Livogrit’, ‘Eyegrit Gold’, and ‘Patanjali Drishti Eye Drop’.

The drug licensing authority attributed the suspension to violations of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act and the Drugs and Cosmetic Act. Patanjali reportedly failed to provide satisfactory information regarding the products.

This action follows a Supreme Court hearing on April 16, during which Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna apologized for publishing misleading advertisements. The Supreme Court directed Patanjali’s lawyers to present copies of the apology advertisements on record, with the related case scheduled for hearing on April 30.

The Indian Medical Association president, Dr. R. V. Asokan, has criticized Baba Ramdev for crossing a red line by claiming a cure for Covid-19 while simultaneously denigrating modern medicine as “stupid and bankrupt science.”
