Firefighters in Syracuse, New York, responded to a vacant home fire on the city’s North Side early Tuesday morning. Upon arriving at the scene at 744 E. Laurel St. at 1:54 a.m., firefighters encountered heavy black smoke emanating from the roof of the boarded-up home. According to Syracuse District Fire Chief Matthew Craner, a spokesperson for the department, a person claiming to have been inside the home was discovered outside on the sidewalk. The individual sustained non-life-threatening burns and was transported to the hospital for treatment. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
