Valve Software, the company responsible for the widely used gaming platform Steam and the recent release of the Steam Deck handheld, is rumored to be developing a new game codenamed ‘Deadlock.’ According to leaks and insider information, ‘Deadlock’ is a third-person shooter game centered around hero-based gameplay. In this game, teams of six players compete against each other on a map featuring four distinct lanes. One of the defining characteristics of ‘Deadlock’ is its distinctive art style, which reportedly draws inspiration from Valve’s renowned ‘DOTA’ series while incorporating steampunk elements to create a captivating blend of fantasy and technology. Players in ‘Deadlock’ will have access to a diverse range of abilities and items, as well as the ability to employ tower defense mechanics as they navigate the fast-paced and action-packed environment. Gabe Follower, a well-known Valve game data miner, shared screenshots of the game and basic details on X (formerly Twitter), while Tyler McVicker, another reputable source for Valve leaks, provided additional information and analysis on YouTube. Both individuals initially revealed information about ‘Deadlock’ on Thursday, outlining its core gameplay elements and highlighting its similarities to Valve’s ‘DOTA’ franchise. Follower described the game’s setting as a fusion of fantasy and steampunk, with elements such as magicians, strange creatures, and robots, as well as fast travel using floating rails akin to those seen in ‘BioShock Infinite.’ Notably, Follower has since published additional screenshots that he claims to have verified. One of these screenshots showcases a character named Grey Talon, described as a white-haired individual equipped with a futuristic bow and arrow who can also utilize traps. In addition, McVicker’s video suggests that ‘Deadlock’ is currently in a closed alpha testing phase and that it incorporates tower defense elements. He also claims that an official announcement regarding the game is imminent and that numerous individuals have already participated in playtesting sessions. ‘Deadlock’ would align with Valve’s recent focus on multiplayer offerings, as the company’s previous releases include ‘Half-Life: Alyx,’ a VR prequel to ‘Half-Life 2’ released in 2020, and ‘Counter-Strike 2,’ a sequel to its popular multiplayer shooter ‘Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’ launched last year. With its unique blend of hero-based gameplay, captivating art style, and strategic elements, ‘Deadlock’ has the potential to be a compelling addition to Valve’s gaming catalog.
