Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance has escalated his attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris, questioning her leadership capabilities and accusing her of dodging accountability. Speaking at a rally in Sanford, North Carolina, a key battleground state, Vance painted a stark contrast between Harris and his running mate, former President Donald Trump. He highlighted Trump’s composure in the face of assassination attempts, drawing a parallel with Harris’ perceived inability to handle pressure and her tendency to make gaffes during interviews.
Vance recalled a conversation with Trump after the second assassination attempt against him, emphasizing the president’s calm demeanor and focus on returning to work. He contrasted this with Harris’ avoidance of the media, arguing that her reluctance to engage with even friendly journalists raises concerns about her ability to negotiate with world leaders like Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping.
“Can we trust that person to negotiate for us with Vladimir Putin, the leader of Russia? Xi Jinping, the leader of China? No, of course we can’t, because she can’t even talk to the friendly American media,” Vance asserted. “She sure as hell can’t be trusted to negotiate on our behalf on the world stage.”
Vance went on to criticize Harris’ interview performance, claiming that her gaffes and tendency to avoid difficult questions benefit the Trump campaign. He highlighted a recent interview on “The View” where Harris, when asked about what she would have done differently during the Biden administration, famously replied “nothing comes to mind.” This, Vance argued, is a prime example of Harris’ lack of accountability and a further indication of her unsuitability for a leadership role.
The Republican vice presidential candidate concluded his remarks by urging North Carolina voters to choose a different path, emphasizing the need for a return to “peace and prosperity” under the leadership of Donald Trump. He challenged Harris to justify her actions during the past four years, questioning her effectiveness in tackling issues such as rising grocery prices, unaffordable housing, open borders, and the fentanyl crisis. “You can ask Kamala Harris, day one was 1,400 days ago,” he said. “What the hell have you been doing for the past four years? Stop talking about your job and start doing your job.”
