Vancouver Cafe Stabbing Trial Set to Commence

The trial for Inderdeep Singh Gosal, the suspect in the fatal stabbing of Paul Schmidt outside a Vancouver Starbucks in 2023, is scheduled to begin on Monday at the provincial court house.

Gosal is facing a charge of second-degree murder for allegedly stabbing Schmidt after an argument over vaping near Schmidt’s daughter. Schmidt’s mother has stated that her son was a hard worker, devoted to his family, and the incident left a profound impact on the downtown Vancouver community.

According to the Vancouver Police Department, Gosal was arrested at the scene after bystanders alerted a constable patrolling the area. Officers attempted to save Schmidt, but he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The killing was captured in a gruesome video shared on social media. Schmidt’s mother previously described her son as a great dad and a loving husband.

The trial is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. PT at the provincial court house in Vancouver.
