Veteran Defender Meunier Returns to Ligue 1 with Lille

Thomas Meunier, a seasoned Belgian defender, has made a return to Ligue 1, signing a two-year contract with Lille. The 32-year-old, who previously played for Turkish club Trabzonspor, brings a wealth of experience to the French side. Meunier is no stranger to Ligue 1 success, having won three league titles with Paris Saint-Germain. He was also a key member of the Belgian national team that finished third at the 2018 World Cup.

Meunier expressed his delight at joining Lille, stating that it was the perfect choice for both his sporting ambitions and family life. “Lille was the perfect choice from a sporting and family point of view. With its proximity to Belgium, it’s like being at home,” he said. He added that he intends to use his extensive experience in European competitions to guide the younger members of the Lille squad, emphasizing the importance of collective success.

Lille will be participating in the Champions League qualifiers after securing a fourth-place finish in Ligue 1 last season. Their first league match of the new campaign will be against Reims on August 18.

Meunier’s arrival is a significant boost for Lille as they prepare for the challenges ahead. His leadership and experience will be invaluable as they aim to compete on multiple fronts.
