The action-packed thriller Vettaiyan: The Hunter, featuring the legendary Rajinikanth and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, has taken the box office by storm. Released on Thursday, the film has already crossed ₹81.8 crore in its opening weekend, highlighting its immense popularity.
On its third day (Saturday), Vettaiyan earned an impressive ₹26 crore, following ₹24 crore on Friday and a robust ₹31.7 crore on its opening day. Early estimates suggest that the film earned around ₹1.42 crore on its fourth day (Sunday).
The film’s success transcends language barriers, with Saturday’s earnings reaching ₹22.75 crore in Tamil, ₹2.65 crore in Telugu, ₹65 lakh in Hindi, and ₹5 lakh in Kannada.
Vettaiyan‘s box office dominance is evident in its high theater occupancy, boasting a 63.81% occupancy overall in Tamil, peaking at 75.34% during night shows.
Directed by TJ Gnanavel and produced by Subaskaran’s Lyca Productions, Vettaiyan features a star-studded cast, including Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, and Abhirami.
The gripping narrative revolves around the pursuit of justice for a woman who was raped and murdered. Rajinikanth portrays a cop addressing the issue of extrajudicial killings, while Amitabh Bachchan, as Sathyadev, argues against such actions with the powerful line, “Justice delayed is justice denied; justice hurried is justice buried.”
As the thirtieth film from Lyca Productions and Amitabh Bachchan’s Tamil cinema debut, Vettaiyan combines a compelling storyline with powerhouse performances, contributing to its box office triumph.
