Viasat Launches Enhanced LAISR Service for Unparalleled Communications Flexibility

Viasat, a global leader in satellite communications, has introduced its groundbreaking Enhanced LAISR service, revolutionizing communication flexibility for users in the air, at sea, and on land. This innovative service represents a substantial upgrade to Viasat’s existing on-demand managed L-band network, ensuring highly available and adaptable connectivity through its seamless global L-band space and ground infrastructure.

Originally conceived to fulfill specific government requirements, Viasat’s award-winning L-band Airborne Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (LAISR) solution offers cost-effective, high-speed beyond line-of-sight (BLOS) satellite communications (SATCOM) for mobile platforms. The service, designed with compact, lightweight, and low-power (SWaP) terminals, guarantees 99.9% network reliability, even in challenging weather conditions, making it an indispensable asset for military operations.

As the demand for reliable SATCOM connectivity continues to surge among government organizations, particularly for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, Viasat’s Enhanced LAISR ensures dependable data transmission for both manned and unmanned platforms. This service provides on-demand managed access to Viasat’s L-band network, guaranteeing mission-critical connectivity whenever and wherever it’s needed.

Users can access the Enhanced LAISR service through the newly developed Enhanced L-band Maritime Antenna (ELMA) and the forthcoming LAISR-COTM (comms-on-the-move) terminal, with additional terminals currently under development. These terminals are designed to deliver reliable, high-speed connectivity with further reduced SWaP form factors, enabling users to benefit from uniform global coverage and seamless communication capabilities.

Viasat’s Enhanced LAISR sets a new standard for flexibility and reliability in the satellite communications industry, empowering government and commercial customers with the tools they need to stay connected in any environment. Steve Gizinski, Chief Technology Officer of Viasat Government, stated, “Enhanced LAISR is the latest example of Viasat’s continuous focus on enhancing terminals and services to deliver additional value and resilience to our government customers as their needs evolve. With Enhanced LAISR, we are expanding upon the proven LAISR capability and our robust service level agreements to provide a highly flexible and accessible service to support crewed and uncrewed ISR missions worldwide.”
