Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s latest comedic venture, ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala’, has kicked off its box office journey with a strong start, raking in Rs 5 crore net on its opening day. According to film industry tracker Sacnilk, the movie, which revolves around a newly married couple in the 1990s whose wedding night sex tape goes missing, performed well against its competitor, Vasan Bala’s action thriller ‘Jigra’, which also released on the same day.
‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala’ saw a particularly strong response in Chennai, where it registered 72% occupancy at 2D screens, the highest across India. Other cities also saw decent occupancy rates, with Bengaluru at 40.50% and Kolkata at 34%.
While the film garnered mixed reviews from critics, the promising opening day collection has generated positive buzz. With Dussehra falling on Saturday, the second day of its release, industry insiders and fans are hopeful for a substantial increase in box office earnings. Film trade analyst Simit Kadel, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stated that the film had a ‘decent start’ and needs a ‘substantial jump’ on the Dussehra holiday to solidify its success.
Produced by T-Series, Balaji Telefilms and Thinkink Picturez, the film was made on a moderate budget, estimated to be around 20-30 crore. ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala’ features a star-studded cast, including Mallika Sherawat, Vijay Raaz, Tiku Talsania and Archana Puran Singh, alongside the lead pair, Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri. With the Dussehra holiday boost, ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala’ has the potential to become a box office success story.
