Video of Old Kerala Rally Shared as Recent

A video of a rally where ‘anti-Hindu’ slogans were reportedly raised is being shared on social media platforms, claiming that it is a recent event in Kerala. The rally was allegedly organized by the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’s member, the Muslim League.

However, our investigation reveals that the video is not recent and dates back to July 26, 2023. The rally was part of a protest against violence in Manipur, and slogans threatening to hang Hindus in front of temples and burn them alive were allegedly chanted. News18 India covered the incident on its Hindi channel on the same day.

The news channel also questioned the INDIA bloc’s principle of secularism for having a political party that practices ‘Hindu hatred’ and noted that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had also called the Muslim League ‘secular.’

Several other news organizations, including Financial Express and FirstPost, reported on the incident on July 26, 2023. Financial Express reported that the slogans were chanted during a protest rally against the Manipur violence in Kanhangad, Kasaragod district. FirstPost reported that the Muslim Youth League issued a statement after the incident, announcing the suspension of Abdul Salman, a party member and Kanhangad-native, who raised the slogan.

Therefore, it is clear that the video being shared as a recent rally from Kerala is actually an old incident from 2023. The slogans raised at the rally were widely condemned, and the Muslim Youth League suspended the party member responsible for raising the offensive slogan.
