According to the Vietnamese state media outlet VN Express, Vuong Dinh Hue, the head of the country’s Parliament, has tendered his resignation. Amid an ongoing anti-corruption campaign, this departure adds Hue to the growing list of senior government officials who have vacated their positions.
Hue’s resignation occurs just four days after state media reported that his assistant, Pham Thai Ha, had been detained on allegations of abusing his influence and power for personal gain. VN Express states that the Communist Party of Vietnam has approved what is described as Hue’s voluntary resignation. However, it was also noted during the investigation that Hue had violated Party regulations and that his actions had tarnished the Party’s, the State’s, and his own reputations.
Hue, who is 67 years old, had served as the chairman of Vietnam’s National Assembly for over three years. In the Vietnamese political hierarchy, the National Assembly chairman ranks fourth in importance, following the President, the Prime Minister, and the Communist Party’s leader. Former President Vo Van Thuong submitted his resignation in late March under comparable circumstances.
