Despite skepticism surrounding her career, Vinesh Phogat has proven her resilience by securing an Olympic quota spot for India in the 50-kg category at the Asian Olympic Qualifiers.
Her journey to qualification was not without challenges. Last year, she led a protest against the former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president, facing sexual harassment allegations. This off-mat battle took a toll on her and her fellow wrestlers. Additionally, she underwent knee surgery in August 2022, delaying her return to competition.
Despite these obstacles, Vinesh made a remarkable comeback at the National Championships in February. She has also successfully cut weight to compete in the 50-kg category.
In her first international competition in over a year, Vinesh dominated the Asian Olympic Qualifiers, securing the quota spot and proving that she remains a force to be reckoned with. Her unwavering determination and ability to overcome challenges are an inspiration to all.
