The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has postponed its decision on Vinesh Phogat’s appeal against disqualification from the Olympics until August 11th. Despite the delay, Vinesh’s uncle, Mahavir Phogat, remains optimistic, stating that 140 crore people of India will receive good news on August 13th. He is confident the decision will be in favor of India. It has been reported that the CAS decision will only be made public on August 13th, two days after the conclusion of the Olympic Games.
Addressing news agency PTI, Mahavir said, “I am confident that the decision will be in our favor, and the 140 crore people of India will receive good news on August 13th.” Regarding Vinesh’s recent retirement announcement, Mahavir expressed the family’s intention to persuade her to reconsider and compete in the 2028 Olympics. “Regarding Vinesh’s decision to retire, our family will try to convince her to take back her decision and make her contest the 2028 Olympics,” he stated.
The ad-hoc division of CAS has extended the time for Sole Arbitrator Hon Dr Annabelle Bennett to issue a decision on Vinesh’s appeal against her disqualification from the women’s 50kg free-style final at the Olympics until 6 pm on August 11th. Vinesh was disqualified after being 100gm overweight during the weigh-in on Wednesday. While the verdict was initially anticipated to be announced earlier, the CAS has opted for a further delay.
According to an IOA source cited by news agency PTI, the decision is likely to be made public on August 13th, two days after the Games in Paris conclude. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has confirmed that the reasoned order for the decision will be issued at a later date.
