Virginie Viard, who has been at the helm of Chanel’s fashion collections for the past five years as artistic director and has been a part of the house for nearly three decades, is departing from her role. Chanel confirmed her departure on Wednesday to Vogue Business, stating that Viard’s departure comes after a successful collaboration during which she was able to refresh the house’s codes while honoring its creative legacy. Chanel expressed gratitude for Viard’s significant contributions to the fashion, creativity, and vitality of the brand.
Viard’s departure follows her appointment as creative director in 2019 after the passing of Karl Lagerfeld. Under her leadership, Chanel has continued to be a force in the fashion world. The upcoming haute couture autumn/winter 2024/25 collection is set to be presented as planned on June 25th at the Opéra Garnier.
Chanel stated that a new creative organization will be announced in due course. Vogue Business will continue to update this story as it develops.
