After a remarkable two decades at the helm of Visit Philadelphia, Manuel N. “Manny” Stamatakis has announced his retirement as Chairman of the Board of Directors, effective at the end of December 2024. Stamatakis has been a driving force behind the growth and success of Philadelphia’s tourism industry, guiding the city through economic challenges and fostering a vibrant travel destination.
His leadership has been instrumental in securing critical funding and driving visitor-generated revenue, particularly during periods of economic uncertainty. Under his guidance, Philadelphia saw a significant rise in tourism revenue, reaching a record $387 million in 2023, marking a 50% increase from the 2008 recession. Stamatakis’s dedication to promoting Philadelphia has earned him accolades and recognition from prominent figures, including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker.
Effective January 1, 2025, Anthony J. “Tony” Conti, the current Board member and Finance Chair, will succeed Stamatakis as Chairman. Conti brings extensive financial and audit expertise from his distinguished career at PricewaterhouseCoopers and his leadership roles within various organizations. His collaborative work with Stamatakis has been crucial in ensuring the financial health and strategic direction of Visit Philadelphia.
In recognition of his exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to the city’s tourism industry, Stamatakis will be honored as Chair Emeritus.
