On Wednesday, a Vistara aircraft flying from Bhubaneswar to New Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing shortly after takeoff due to severe weather conditions.
The aircraft, carrying 169 passengers and crew, encountered a hailstorm that cracked the windshield and damaged the radome. The radome is the protective cover for the aircraft’s weather radar.
Despite the damage, all passengers and crew were unharmed. The aircraft landed safely at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar just ten minutes after takeoff.
The airline has arranged for an alternate aircraft to complete the journey for the passengers.
The incident is a reminder of the importance of being prepared for severe weather conditions when flying. Airlines and pilots should have procedures in place to deal with such situations.
