Dutch forward Vivianne Miedema has signed a three-year contract with Manchester City, the Women’s Super League (WSL) club announced on Friday. The move comes after the league’s all-time top scorer left Arsenal at the end of the 2023-24 season. Miedema enjoyed a successful seven-year spell with Arsenal, scoring 80 goals in the WSL and winning four trophies. However, she faced challenges in the last two seasons, struggling with injuries following an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture in December 2022. The injury required surgery and unfortunately forced her to miss the Women’s World Cup last year.
The 27-year-old now joins a Manchester City side that has experienced success in domestic cup competitions but hasn’t won the league since 2016. They have been runners-up on five occasions since their last title triumph. With Miedema’s arrival, City will be hoping to bolster their attack and challenge for the WSL title once again.
