Vivo continues to elevate its mid-range V-series smartphones by incorporating Zeiss-engineered camera technology, a feature previously reserved for their more expensive models. The latest additions, the Vivo V40 and Vivo V40 Pro, highlight Zeiss’s portrait mode enhancements, which have impressed us on the high-end Vivo X Fold3 Pro.
The Vivo V40 Pro emerges as the more intriguing of the two, boasting a remarkable camera setup. It features a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 50MP wide-angle camera, and a 50MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom and up to 50x digital zoom. This camera system fully utilizes Zeiss Multifocal Portrait mode and the camera’s five different focal length settings to deliver stunning portrait shots.
Portrait mode extends its capabilities to video on the V40 series, incorporating a Cinematic Bokeh Video mode capable of capturing 4K footage with the bokeh portrait effect. Another innovative mode, Focus Transition, automatically shifts focus between two individuals based on their facing direction, adding a professional touch to your videos.
The V40 Pro also includes a selection of fill lights for portrait shots in low-light conditions, including the distinctive Aura Light, which was well-received on the Vivo V30 Pro. This impressive camera technology is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ processor, complemented by 12GB of RAM and a 5,500mAh battery with 80W fast charging. While the screen size remains undisclosed at this time, it boasts a 120Hz refresh rate and a sleek 7.58mm thick body. Three color options are available: Meteor Blue, Moonlight White, and Stellar Silver. The V40 receives two unique colors, Nebula Purple and Sunglow Peach.
The Vivo V40 offers a slightly less premium specification, featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor and omitting the 50MP telephoto camera. For those seeking the absolute best portrait shots, the V40 Pro is the clear choice.
Vivo has yet to disclose pricing details for either phone. However, considering the V series’ mid-range positioning and the V30 Pro’s price point below $550, we can anticipate competitive pricing. Both models have launched in India today, with other Vivo regions to follow.
