Vogue Arabia’s Saudi Issue Celebrates Women, Wildlife, and Culture

Vogue Arabia’s June 2023 issue celebrates the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s majestic wildlife, including the Arabian leopard, a symbol of national pride, and the camel, a revered animal that embodies resilience and adaptability.

In honor of the Year of the Camel, HRH Princess AlJoharah bint Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud graces the first cover, wearing her father’s archived bisht alongside the national animal against the backdrop of AlUla’s rock formations. Inside the issue, she shares her journey and her dedication to empowering women.

On the second cover, multi-talented Yara Alnamlah encounters the Arabian leopard, while HRH Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud pens an exclusive letter emphasizing the significance of the wild cat. Thanks to Catmosphere, the Royal Commission for AlUla, and the Arabian Leopard Fund, a new generation of Arabian leopard cubs now thrives in AlUla. February 10th has been designated as the International Day of the Arabian Leopard by the United Nations General Assembly to raise awareness.

Saudi Arabia has soared to new heights, as evidenced by Rayyanah Barnawi, the Arab world’s first female astronaut. A year after her mission, she believes that an astronaut’s true duty begins upon their return. She embraces this responsibility, recognizing the impact she has on inspiring future generations.

August marks 17 years since the passing of Saudi icon Etab, one of the Gulf region’s most talented female singers. Her influence on the arts scene continues to inspire Arab performers today. Artists Sawsan Albahiti and Rahma Riad explore Etab’s legacy and its relevance in contemporary times.

The issue draws inspiration from the beloved Taif rose, which blooms in vibrant hues across western Saudi Arabia. A floral fashion shoot captures the essence of these blooms, featuring traditional prints and motifs.

HRH Princess Nourah Alfaisal, CEO of the Art of Heritage, works to preserve Saudi Arabia’s cultural heritage through unique pieces that embody the country’s history and artistic traditions. She highlights the diverse range of Saudi crafts, challenging stereotypes.

Saudi women are breaking new ground across industries. This issue features eight trailblazers, including Jood W. Alharthi, the first Saudi woman to hold a position in the executive office of the secretary-general at the United Nations. She expresses her pride in this achievement and its significance for Saudi women globally.

Rima Al-Harbi, the first Saudi woman to win at the AlUla Camel Cup, shares her experiences and the challenges she overcame. Additionally, Saudi It-girls showcase the latest Pre-Fall collections and animal-inspired accessories.
