Vogue India’s Forces of Fashion 2024: A Celebration of Indian Runway History and Future Innovation

There’s an undeniable grounding force in the beauty of fashion, a carefully crafted and beautiful expression of creativity. When the world feels overwhelming, we turn to these timeless joys for solace. And at the heart of India’s fashion scene lies a quest for beauty, meticulously woven into every thread of delicate silk and satin.

To celebrate this enduring pursuit of escapism in its most exquisite form, Vogue India is hosting its annual Forces of Fashion event, featuring a landmark new exhibit. While Forces of Fashion consistently honors both emerging and established designers with ambitious visions, this year’s focus is on demystifying the industry itself.

From October 14th to 16th, the Galerie Mirchandani + Steinruecke in Mumbai will be transformed into a gallery showcasing forty exclusive masterpieces. This unique exhibit offers a rare peek into the private archives of designers, as well as into the world of Vogue India. Curated by journalist and curator Varun Rana in collaboration with Vogue India, the exhibition delves into the rich history of the Indian runway through the diverse perspectives of participating designers.

As the fashion industry continues its rapid evolution, embracing ever-changing creative directors, emerging talent, and a constant barrage of fleeting trends, the exhibition highlights the importance of staying true to our roots and honoring our past. “This ambitious showcase started with the idea of celebrating the history and power of the Indian runway, with a twist. Blurring the boundaries between art and fashion, we’ve tried to create an experience that invites the Vogue audience into the heart of the creative process. We’re grateful to every one of the amazing designers who’ve participated for their generosity and talent, and to our collaborator Varun Rana for helping us shepherd our vision to fruition. And thank you to our partners at Ajio for supporting our endeavours from the beginning and helping make this edition of Forces of Fashion truly memorable,” says Rochelle Pinto, Head of Editorial Content, Vogue India.

This year’s exhibition draws upon the history of the Indian runway as a guiding force, offering a connection to the past as a foundation for future innovation. The exhibition is a prelude to the annual Vogue tradition – a red-carpet gala held at the St. Regis Hotel in Mumbai on October 23rd. The gala will honor the creative community, awarding young creatives and talented individuals who are shaping the future of fashion.

“This exciting partnership with Vogue will bring a new dimension to the fashion narrative of modern India, enabling AJIO to lead trend-first dialogues that shape the future of fashion. It marks a significant step towards redefining the fashion landscape with innovation, creativity, and a deep appreciation for the evolving identity of Indian style,” says Vineeth Nair, CEO, AJIO. This collaboration represents a powerful alliance of forces within the industry, dedicated to charting a future course rooted in mindful creation and continuous accessibility.

Forces of Fashion is more than just a celebration of individual brands and the creative process. It’s an intimate experience that seamlessly blends modernity with tradition. The event sheds light not only on India’s evolving fashion story but also on the meticulous craftsmanship that brings these beautiful creations to life. With its highly anticipated Forces of Fashion event as the centerpiece, Vogue India’s exclusive showcase is a testament to the enduring power of the industry, extending far beyond its outward glitz and glamour.
