Fans have begun speculating about the next Indian cricket head coach after BCCI opened applications for the position. With Rahul Dravid’s tenure expiring after the T20 World Cup, several names have emerged as potential replacements.
One of the frontrunners is VVS Laxman, who has served as stand-in head coach during Dravid’s absence and currently holds the position of head of the National Cricket Academy. Laxman’s familiarity with the Indian team and system may give him an edge over other candidates.
The BCCI has confirmed that former India captain Dravid will not receive an automatic extension as he did after the ODI World Cup last year. This has fueled speculation that Team India will have a new head coach and support staff after the T20 World Cup.
The selection process will involve a thorough review of applications, personal interviews, and assessments of shortlisted candidates. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) will lead the selection process, and their recommendation will determine the next India head coach.
While Laxman is considered a strong contender, he may face competition from overseas applicants. BCCI secretary Jay Shah has stated that the board is open to appointing a foreign coach, although the last three coaches were former Indian cricketers.
