Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’s Eternal War mode offers a thrilling PvP experience where two teams of six players clash in a battle for supremacy. From dodging enemy fire to unleashing devastating abilities, this 6v6 mode is a test of skill and strategy. While matchmaking can sometimes present challenges, Eternal War is an engaging experience that should be on every Space Marine’s radar.
To unlock the Eternal War mode, complete the tutorial mission and venture to the Battle Barge. After a captivating cutscene introducing Captain Acheran and his squadmates, you’ll gain access to the launch bay terminal, where Eternal War awaits. Choose from three game modes:

Annihilation:
A classic team deathmatch where each kill earns your team a point.*
Seize Ground:
Similar to Control modes in other shooters, where you capture and defend strategic locations, earning points based on control.*
Capture and Control:
Teams compete to capture a single objective point, which changes location after each capture.Eternal War mirrors the Operations mode by offering six distinct classes: Tactical, Assault, Vanguard, Bulwark, Sniper, and Heavy. Keep in mind that each team is limited to two players of the same class, forcing you to adapt if your preferred choice is unavailable.
Here’s a breakdown of each class and tips to help you excel in Eternal War:
Heavy
Currently considered the top PvP class due to its unparalleled firepower. The Heavy Bolter is a devastating weapon, capable of unleashing a torrent of bullets. The Iron Halo ability provides a shield, absorbing damage before it breaks. Two Heavies on a team are a formidable force, capable of holding chokepoints and corridors.
Bulwark
While a top pick in Operations mode, the Bulwark faces more challenges in Eternal War. Ranged weapons hold a significant advantage over melee fighters. The Bulwark can charge into enemy lines with its shield or deploy its Chapter Banner to heal allies, but it remains vulnerable to sustained fire. Focus on distractions, allowing your team to flank and engage opponents.
Sniper
The Sniper is a high-risk, high-reward class, requiring precise aim. The Bolt Sniper Rifle packs a punch, effective at both short and medium ranges. The Camo Cloak ability provides temporary invisibility, allowing for stealthy maneuvers or surprise attacks. Remember that enemies can bump into you even when invisible, and the Tactical’s Auspex Scan will immediately reveal your location.
Vanguard
The Vanguard is unique among PvP classes due to the Grapnel Launcher, which enables a quick and powerful stun. Launch the Grapnel at a nearby enemy to quickly close the distance and deliver a flying kick, momentarily staggering your opponent for a headshot or melee strike. However, this maneuver carries risk, especially when surrounded by enemies.
Tactical
The Tactical is a strong PvP contender, thanks to the Auspex Scan, which reveals the location of nearby enemies, including those using stealth. This invaluable ability keeps your team informed of potential threats, allowing for strategic maneuvering. The Tactical also enjoys access to a wide range of ranged primary weapons.
Assault
The Assault class features the Jump Pack, which can launch you into the air for a surprise attack. However, the Jump Pack is a risky maneuver, leaving you vulnerable to attack if your ground slam misses. The Assault class is not recommended for beginners due to its inherent risks.
Eternal War features a separate progression system from Operations but allows you to carry over your unlocked armor colors and heraldry cosmetics. You can earn requisition currency and XP to increase your veterancy rank, unlocking new weapons for your loadouts.
