Wattpad and Webtoons Tap Josh Campbell & Matt Stuecken for ‘I’m the Grim Reaper’ Film Adaptation

Streaming platform Wattpad Webtoon Studios has enlisted the talents of Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken, renowned for their work on ’10 Cloverfield Lane’ and ‘Horizon Line,’ to spearhead the film adaptation of the popular South Korean webtoon ‘I’m the Grim Reaper.’ This live-action project boasts an impressive lineup of executive producers, including acclaimed director Sam Raimi, producer Zainab Azizi, and the webtoon’s creator, Grave Weaver, who will actively collaborate in bringing the story to life.

The narrative centers around Scarlet, a young woman who mysteriously awakens in the depths of hell, with no memory of her arrival. Enticed by Satan’s deceptive offer to return her to Earth, she accepts the role of his reaper, unaware of the sinister consequences that await her. As she delves deeper into her newfound duty, Scarlet uncovers the terrifying truth behind Satan’s proposal.

This supernatural horror-comedy falls well within Sam Raimi’s signature style, promising a thrilling blend of scares, gore, and humor. Campbell and Stuecken have a proven track record of success, having sold their procedural ‘The Interpreter’ to NBC and their project ‘Borrowed Time’ to Fox. They also have John Woo’s ‘The Killer’ in post-production at Peacock, along with an untitled horror/thriller in the works for The Hideaway. The duo is represented by Verve and attorney Nick Marell.

Wattpad Webtoon Studios, established in 2019, bridges the gap between online fandom and on-screen adaptations. By leveraging the vast catalog of popular intellectual properties from Wattpad and Webtoon, the studio creates content for film and television that resonates with a ready-made audience. Their recent and upcoming releases include ‘Float,’ starring Robbie Amell and Andrea Bang, as well as the third and final installment in Netflix’s ‘Through My Window’ trilogy, based on Ariana Godoy’s Wattpad webnovel. Additionally, the studio is gearing up for the release of ‘Boot Camp,’ an adaptation of Gina Musa’s Wattpad webnovel, featuring Riverdale alum Drew Ray Tanner.
