A shocking incident in West Bengal’s Uttar Dinajpur district has sparked outrage after a video went viral showing a man brutally assaulting a couple with a bamboo stick. The incident, which allegedly occurred after a kangaroo court verdict, has led to the arrest of the accused, Tajmul alias JCB, a local TMC leader from Chopra. The viral video shows Tajmul mercilessly beating the woman, dragging her by her hair and kicking her, while a crowd looks on. He is also seen beating the man with a stick. The Islampur Police District has confirmed the incident and stated that they have promptly identified and arrested the accused. The couple has been provided with police security, and an investigation is underway. The incident has drawn criticism from the Opposition, including the BJP, Congress, and CPI(M), who have accused the Mamata Banerjee government of failing to maintain law and order. BJP leader Amit Malviya, in a post on X, slammed the incident as the “ugly face of Mamata Banerjee’s rule” and called the accused a “close associate” of Chopra MLA Hamidur Rahaman. He also accused the Chief Minister of condoning such violence. CPI(M) state secretary Md Salim termed the incident as “literally bulldozer justice” under the Mamata Banerjee government. State Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury condemned the attack, calling it “barbaric and deplorable.” However, local TMC MLA Hamidur Rahman distanced himself from the incident, claiming it was a “village matter, not related to the party.”
