West Indies Opt to Bat First in Third Test Against England

The third Test match between England and the West Indies commenced at Edgbaston on Friday, with the West Indies winning the toss and electing to bat first. England, already holding an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, maintained their winning team from the previous Test at Trent Bridge. They are confident of securing a series sweep.

The West Indies, however, made one change to their lineup. Spinner Gudakesh Motie returned to the squad after recovering from an illness, replacing allrounder Kevin Sinclair, who suffered a fractured left forearm in the second Test due to a delivery from England’s pacer Mark Wood. Wood had previously clocked speeds exceeding 97 mph (156 kph) in the second Test.

The pitch at Edgbaston appears to be conducive to batting, with sunny conditions prevailing. This suggests a high-scoring match could be in store. England had previously won the first Test at Lord’s by an innings and 114 runs. The West Indies will be hoping to put up a better fight in this crucial encounter.
