Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced that star all-rounders Andre Russell and Jason Holder will be rested for the upcoming three-match T20 home series against South Africa. The decision comes as the players have been involved in a demanding schedule, with Holder having played five consecutive test matches against England and South Africa. Russell also requested a period of rest and recovery.
During their time off, both players will work closely with the CWI science and medicine team to ensure they are fully recovered and ready for future commitments.
The squad for the series sees the return of medium pacer Matthew Forde and all-rounder Fabian Allen, both of whom missed the T20 World Cup in June. Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who was rested for the recent test series against South Africa, is also missing from the 15-man squad. Opening batter Brandon King is also absent due to injury.
West Indies head coach Daren Sammy expressed confidence in the selected squad, stating that the players are eager to prove themselves and prepare for the next T20 World Cup in 2026.
The three-match T20 series is scheduled to be played on August 23, 25, and 27 at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad and Tobago.
