The first year of the agreement will see employees receive a retroactive 4.5% raise effective January 1, 2024, followed by a 5% increase on January 1, 2025. The remaining two years will each feature a 3.5% wage adjustment. The parties engaged in three days of negotiations from April 10 to 12, culminating in the ALGEU ratifying the deal on April 17 and the city council’s subsequent approval on April 23. According to the city, the wage increases are in line with recent labor agreements negotiated in other regions of British Columbia. The collective agreement also includes minor housekeeping amendments to ensure labor stability. Global News contacted the ALGEU for further comment, but no response has been received at this time.
