WestJet and Korean Air Expand Codeshare Partnership for Enhanced Connectivity

In the evolving post-pandemic travel landscape, codeshare agreements are gaining prominence as airlines seek to expand their international reach efficiently. WestJet, a Canadian carrier, has recently expanded its existing codeshare partnership with Korean Air, offering access to a wider range of transpacific destinations and seamless connections for passengers.

The expanded codeshare agreement is made possible by the launch of a new seasonal route between Calgary and Seoul on May 17, 2024. Operated by Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, this new route will operate up to three times weekly. WestJet customers arriving in Seoul will enjoy seamless connections to Korean Air flights bound for Bangkok, Da Nang, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, and Singapore. This integrated ticketing and baggage handling process provides a convenient and efficient travel experience.

Korean Air passengers will now have direct access to Calgary, Canada’s gateway to the world-renowned Banff National Park. WestJet Vice President of Commercial Development and Strategic Partnerships, Jeff Hagen, expressed enthusiasm for this expanded partnership, emphasizing its alignment with the airline’s plans to launch flights between Calgary and Seoul. He highlighted the enhanced connectivity to key Asian destinations for WestJet guests and the benefits for Korean Air passengers accessing Canada through Calgary.

The existing codeshare agreement between Korean Air and WestJet has been in place since June 2012 and has steadily expanded over the years. Korean Air offers flights from Seoul to Vancouver and Toronto, while WestJet provides domestic connections within Canada and flights to and from the United States via Vancouver and Toronto. With this latest expansion, the codeshare network now encompasses 36 routes, unlocking a world of opportunities for WestJet customers.

From its global hub at Incheon Airport, Korean Air operates an extensive network spanning 110 cities in 39 countries across five continents. Its modern fleet of 160 aircraft and over 20,000 employees support its position as one of the largest transpacific airlines through its joint venture with Delta Air Lines.
