WestJet Group and the Winnipeg Airports Authority have announced a significant expansion of flight operations in Winnipeg, marking a 21% increase in services for 2024. This growth underscores WestJet’s commitment to Manitoba’s capital city, providing more travel options for both business and leisure travelers.
WestJet is bolstering its domestic presence in Winnipeg, with a 43% increase in services compared to last year. This expansion includes new routes and increased frequencies on popular routes, making same-day business travel easier for Manitoba’s business community. This enhanced connectivity provides local access to major Canadian markets, reinforcing economic ties.
The airline is also focusing on international expansion from Winnipeg, introducing new transborder flights to Atlanta and adding routes to popular leisure destinations: Los Cabos, Nashville, and Fort Lauderdale. This expansion is expected to cater to over 9,000 travelers seeking to explore these vibrant destinations, further integrating Winnipeg into key Latin American and Caribbean tourist circuits.
To make air travel even more accessible, WestJet introduced its UltraBasic fare earlier this year. This budget-friendly option is available on every route in their network, and has already helped over 1.4 million Manitobans take advantage of WestJet’s expanded offerings. The airline projects that nearly 2 million passengers will benefit from the UltraBasic fare by the end of the year.
The Winnipeg Airports Authority is also thrilled with this expansion, recognizing the positive impact it will have on the community. “WAA is proud to enhance connectivity for our community, delivering the travel options they deserve,” said Nick Hays, Winnipeg Airports Authority President & CEO. “Our growing partnership with WestJet reflects a shared commitment to our province, offering more flights to more destinations from YWG and providing travelers with greater choice and convenience.”
With its commitment to growth and its introduction of cost-effective travel options, WestJet is poised to continue its positive impact on Winnipeg, making the city a more connected and accessible destination for both business and leisure travel.
