Wildfire Threat Looms as Evacuation Alert Issued for Central British Columbia Community

An evacuation alert has been issued for the Endako community in central British Columbia due to an out-of-control wildfire that is less than a kilometer west of the town. The blaze started on Saturday afternoon, and by Sunday, strong winds shifted, pushing the flames towards Endako.

With 60 km/h winds fueling the fire, residents of the 50 properties in Endako have been advised to prepare for evacuation. Firefighters are currently working on containing the blaze, which spans approximately 25 hectares. Heavy equipment and helicopters are assisting in the efforts.

Endako’s evacuation alert is one of two issued for central British Columbia over the weekend. The Cariboo Regional District has also issued an alert for six parcels of land covering 32 square kilometers due to a fire in the Burgess Creek area.

The BC Wildfire Service reported nine new wildfires in the province within the last 24 hours, highlighting concerns about a potentially challenging wildfire season. The region has experienced significant drought and low snowpack levels, contributing to the increased risk of wildfires.
