Wimbledon Champion Marketa Vondrousova Divorcing Husband, Grieving Grandfather’s Passing

Marketa Vondrousova, the reigning Wimbledon champion, has announced her separation from her husband, Stepan Simek. The couple had been married for just over a year, having tied the knot in July 2022. Vondrousova, who stunned the tennis world with her remarkable run at the All England Club in 2023, cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.

Vondrousova revealed that Simek had moved out of their home along with their beloved cat. The couple met as teenagers and began dating in 2016. They got engaged just after Vondrousova’s silver medal performance at the Tokyo Olympics.

Adding to Vondrousova’s emotional distress is the recent passing of her grandfather, who battled cancer. Vondrousova flew back to the Czech Republic from the Indian Wells event last month to spend time with him before his death. She described her grandfather as the person who stood at the very beginning of her tennis career and was there for every important moment.

Despite the personal setbacks, Vondrousova remains focused on her tennis career. She is currently ranked No. 7 in the world and is determined to continue achieving success on the court.
